YOUR SUPPORT MAKES TPW POSSIBLE!

Gallery TPW is the only organization of its scale within the GTA committed to supporting underrepresented artistic and curatorial practices that push the boundaries of lens-based work. This unique focus makes Gallery TPW distinct within the wider arts ecology.

Our diverse roster of exhibitions, screenings, performances, commissioned writing, and public programs have expanded awareness of the vital role that images play in contemporary culture. Through several locations and across our over 40-year history, Gallery TPW has helped launch the careers of significant Canadian artists, writers and curators, and has developed a national reputation and international community through collaboration with fellow artist-run centres, public galleries, educational institutions, and festivals.

Gallery TPW supports artists and audiences through three main pillars

  1. We support artists through
EXHIBITIONS, often enabling the production of new bodies of work. From our early role as an advocate for photography as an artistic form to our current interest in how artists are working across lens-based media, we support generative, exploratory art practices, believing that the gallery space is a key forum for public engagement.

  2. Through EVENTS we examine the role of images within wider social and political contexts, while holding space for urgent conversations that respond to the world around us.

  3. EDUCATION is the third pillar of our focus. Through commissioned texts, school tours, and many more activities we take seriously our role in building greater visual literacy.

Sophie Hackett Fund for Emerging Curators

Gallery TPW is delighted to launch the Sophie Hackett Fund for Emerging Curators. This unique fund supports curators and arts administrators in gaining valuable experience at TPW, ranging from mentorships to curatorial opportunities. Contributions to the fund support guest curators, TPW’s Curatorial Resident and additional paid opportunities for early career programmers to learn about artist-run culture, contemporary curatorial practice, and non-profit management. Named after Gallery TPW’s former Board President, Sophie Hackett, the fund directly and immediately contributes to TPW’s ability to thrive while supporting career-launching opportunities that prioritize BIPOC curators.

Please join Gallery TPW in supporting the Sophie Hackett Fund for Emerging Curators. This is an exciting initiative that will cultivate and empower the next generation of arts professionals and help honour TPW’s commitment of supporting our community by recognizing and championing new voices and perspectives.
