Gallery TPW is pleased to announce Photorama 2010, the gallery’s 24th annual fundraising exhibition and sale of contemporary Canadian art. Photorama 2010 is open to the public from November 26 – December 4, 2010.
Photorama 2010 features over 100 pieces of artwork, including a new photograph by Edward Burtynsky, one of Canada’s most respected photographers. Over this past year, Burtynsky has been photographing the oil spill catastrophe in the Gulf of Mexico. Burtynsky’s remarkable work has been collected by several major museums around the world, including the National Gallery of Canada, the Bibliotèque Nationale in Paris, the Museum of Modern Art and Guggenheim Museum in New York.
Other unique highlights at Photorama 2010 include a work by Suzy Lake from her 2008 exhibition at the AGO, an image from 2010 Sobey Art Award nominee Brendan Fernandes, a new image by Carole Condé & Karl Beveridge, plus a contribution from Lisa Steele & Kim Tomczak.
For 24 years, Photorama has featured high quality work and the contributions from many of Canada’s most accomplished and respected artists. On Thursday, November 25, 6 – 9 pm Gallery TPW invites Collector Members to attend an exclusive Collectors Preview of Photoroma 2010. Collectors Members are given the first opportunity to purchase the art works before Photorama opens to the public. Photorama opens to the public on Friday, November 26, 6 – 9 pm with an opening reception.
Most works in Photorama are priced below $600. With over 80 artists offering the best in contemporary photography at affordable prices, PHOTORAMA offers collectors and first-time buyers alike the opportunity to expand or start their collection. Each purchase supports culture in Toronto, with a percentage going to the artist and Gallery TPW. Photorama is Gallery TPW’s major annual fundraising event featuring artists selected by Gallery TPW’s Board of Directors. Photorama 2009 was the most successful year ever, with sales exceeding $46,000. Over $13,700 was paid out to artists in sale fees and $29,400 was raised in direct support of the gallery’s programming and operations. This year, Gallery TPW hopes to raise $30,000 towards the expansion of its innovative programming and community building events.
